The Mini Storage Center was founded in 1976 as part of a broader real estate family business that had been serving Charlotte and the surrounding region since the 1930s. As the self-storage industry began to take shape in the 1970s, we were among the first operators in the Carolinas to recognize the opportunity — and we built our first facilities with the same straightforward approach we use today.
What started as a single concept grew steadily into a network of 10 properties spanning North and South Carolina — from Charlotte and Concord down through Fort Mill, Rock Hill, and the surrounding communities. Each location was built or acquired with the same goal: give people a clean, secure, fairly-priced place to store their belongings, and treat them the way you’d want to be treated.
Fifty years later, that’s still the whole plan.

The Beginning
The Mini Storage Center opens its first facility in the Carolinas, among the earliest self-storage operators in the region. Built on the foundation of a Charlotte real estate family business with roots going back to the 1930s.
